Music Video Brief

I am making a music video for my A2 Coursework and as part of the production, I understand this brief: A promotion package for the release of an album, to include music promo video, together with two of the following three options: a website homepage for the band. a digipak for the album's release. a magazine advertisement for the digipak.

Crime Storyboards (Narrative)

Image
My task was to create 3 photographic story boards that narrated a crime, each in different orders to show how order of narrative like forking path narratives can effect a story: This is my first storyboard I created, where it goes through the process of confession by the murderer, talking about how she did it. This storyboard goes through how the detective worked it out, where a body was found, and the suspect was put through interrogation, and there is a flashback to when the detective worked out who did it by a witness. My third storyboard takes on a documentary-esque type of film due to how the narrative does a full circle as we already know who the murderer is, we just get to see how it was done.     This storyboard is just practice and will be helpful for when I develop my planning of my music video.

Narrative Discussion - Forking Path

Image
Today I looked a series of trailers of films that used a narrative technique called 'forking path', which is where a story goes between two events/times back and forth, like the prongs of a fork, to create different narratives. Source Code - This is an action packed film, that uses a forking path narrative to have the main character keep going back to the same moment over and over again, till a problem is fixed. Furthermore, this movie has a love interest to maintain a diversity, and add an extra plot to the main story and give the audience something else to look forward to. Edge of Tomorrow - The Edge of Tomorrow has a similar structure to the Source Code, however in this movie the main character doesn't swap between people's bodies, though it still does have a love interest, and the focus to save people's lives, over and over again. Time Traveller's Wife - This movie's genre is mainly a romance story between a time traveller and a woman, in ...

George Lucas In Love

Image
George Lucas in Love is a hybrid of the genres: Romance and Comedy, and it is a spoof of the movie: Star Wars. Having a hybrid of genres in short films is beneficial as it targets a bigger audience as people will watch a movie based on the genre, hence George Lucas In Love attracting people who like Romance, and also people who like Comedy films.  Because it references Star Wars, it makes a lot of the jokes much funnier as the audience will get the references, as there is a lot of costumes that reference characters from the science fiction movie, so we know who is who. The comedic aspect of the short film is that it shows all the quirks of characters in the real movie, so we can actually see who it is meant to be, in a comedic effect. For example - 'Darth Vader' uses an inhaler in the short film, to portray the deep breathes he has in the real film.  The romance is portrayed through the characters of George Lucas and 'Princess Leia', as it shows how they fall i...

Chase Scene - Short Film Practice

Image
This is a short clip of a chase scene that I edited together from clips that me and a group of people filmed. This was my second attempt at editing on Premiere Pro cc 2017 software, and because of this practice clip, I have learnt a lot of techniques that would be helpful for my coursework. For example, I have learnt about different effects that I could drag and drop onto clips within my timeline. This is like the 'crop' effect to make the letterbox effect. I also experimented with digital zooms, and titles to create a Street Fighter/ Scott Pilgrim- esq feel to the clip. I particularly like the aerial shot used of the two girls running, as it adds another dimension to the clip as most shorts are medium close ups or mid shots, except the long shots of them actually running. I also like how the beginning goes between the two girls to add tension, along side the music, making it seem like the two girls are going to fight - especially with the slow motion shot of the feet ...

Bullied - Editing Practice

Image
This is a very short film that I made within a group of four, in which we used it as practice for our  coursework. We had a set dialogue, and a list of different shot sizes and cinematography techniques to include, and we had 2 hours to film and edit it. What I have created isn't the best piece of film, but I am quite proud of what I have achieved due to this being my first ever short film. It uses techniques like shot reverse shots, long shorts, eye line matches, match on action, close ups, etc. This is exampled within the conversation between the two friends that are bulling the other character.   I think the use of focusing is particularly good, because it allows the audience to see exactly who the girls are talking about without there being any dialogue. The focus is a wide depth of field as you can see the background and the foreground together, as you can see all three characters in that shot. Furthermore, you can tell that 'Lauren' is the one being bullied d...
