Edited Footage Extracts
This post includes some of my music video and edited extracts in which I explain some of the choices I made and why I did them:
1st Extract - This is the beginning of my music video excluding the title screen. It features many darkly lit shots that have an almost yellow/orange tinge to it in which I added to make the shots set the mood, hence feel solemn, until the shot with the feet which is contrast to this, as I wanted to mimic the good times. Although initially I wanted a shot with my actor's feet in the bed, but I was unable to achieve this, therefore I compromised.
2nd Extract - The second extract is of the beach scene that I shot, and I used a few close ups of my actors to make it very personal as this fitted with the rest of the video about mental health and romance. The shots I tried to line up with the music, when the lyrics pronounce "you" and "I", and coordinating this with my characters, in which this helps the audience establish a better grasp of the narrative and enforce some kind of alignment with either characters.
3rd Extract - This extract shows the characters cuddled up with each other on the couch, in which I edited the shots to be kind of comforting due to the way it is composed as you can see how the characters are very close, and the tone is quite nostalgic to show how the characters are, compared to what the 4th extract shows. I also added another shot from the beach scene to create some contrast with the editing, and showed them smiling and interacting, in which you didn't see from the last beach scene. I intended this to show how the characters used to be so full of love, and how happy they were.
4th - Extract - Ultimately, this 4th extract includes the argument scene that occurs between the characters, and how the audience gets to see their destruction. It is a montage of some fights they have, in which it ends up with one of them leaving. I edited this on the beat of the music, in which the pace becomes quicker to imply how quickly the relationship falls apart. I also graded the shots to look quite bleach and not much contrast to show how much of a dismal situation it is to be in.
